Becca Smouse is a journalist in the making with a passion for writing and photography. She is currently a senior at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Communication where she is majoring in journalism with an emphasis on writing and reporting, as well as minoring in criminology and criminal justice.
Becca has been writing news since she was a freshman in high school. She’s worked as a columnist and photographer at ASU’s online publication The State Press, along with Arizona State’s Cronkite News Service, associated with Arizona’s local PBS, as a law and legal reporter.
She’s spent time with The Arizona Republic throughout the majority of her ASU career, working internships in breaking news, community reporting and digital production. Continuing with Gannett, she has also worked as a reporting intern for USA TODAY in Los Angeles, Calif., with a focus on news and entertainment.
She has held internships with The East Valley Tribune, ABC15.com and the Phoenix Business Journal, as well. Becca has reported on business, breaking news, entertainment, as well as as experience with digital production, video production, SEO tagging and managing a CMS. Most passionately, she enjoys reporting on public safety.
This summer, she will be a Pulliam Fellow with The Arizona Republic. She will be working with the Community reporting desk.
Becca is graduating in May of 2017 and is currently looking to begin her career as a full-time reporter.
